Plus Property, the full-service professional property and facility management agency, through its PLUS Eduplex learning institute a first within the real estate circle has developed a special program within its faculty of facility management to pass on knowledge to students within the engineering and architecture disciplinesThe pilot program has seen participation by leading institutes from Lao PDR, whose students engaged in hands-on work at high-rise office buildings under PLUSs administrationMeanwhile, research and development division has discovered a tendency for facility management affairs to require personnel with increased innovative and technological skills who could better accommodate future buildings that are likely to be within

Ms. Suwannee Mahanarongchai, Deputy Managing Director, Business Strategies and Asset Management, Plus Property Company Limited, the full-service professional property and facility management agency, in her capacity as Chief Expertise Curator at Plus Eduplex, spoke of the developments surrounding the launch of “PLUS Eduplex” learning institute towards the end of 2018.  She explained that after having established curricula for internal personnel – which covered all aspects of services relevant to properties – and having already trained and produced personnel with the intended skill sets (such as the training of butlers for servicing luxury condominiums, the addition of preliminary repairman skills to female personnel for the purpose of servicing female residents, etc.), PLUS now would like to share its knowledge and expertise to outside organisations whose functions were related to real estate service.  This is especially true for younger individuals who were studying in a relevant field or were interested in this field of work.  Most recently, PLUS Eduplex has devised a special program, made possible through a collaboration with Chulalongkorn University, to train 10 engineering and architecture students from leading educational institutes in Lao PDR who were at the very top of their classes.  The institutes include National University of Laos, Lao-German Technical College and Pakpasak Technical College.  The students were to learn about facility management and engineering and train in real work settings for a duration of 3 months.  In addition to receiving theoretical knowledge from professionals, the students would also get hands-on practice at real work sites when they are dispatched to high-rise buildings that were entrusted to PLUS to administrate.  Examples include the Stock Exchange of Thailand building and the Tisco building, both of which are representative of modern buildings in Thailand.  PLUS Eduplex hopes the special program would allow the young adults to better grasp relevant knowledge, accumulate work experience and develop their competency in facility management and engineering.  As a result, they are expected to become better prepared for future work.

Mr. Chan Sirirat, Deputy Managing Director of Facility Management Division, Plus Property Company Limited, in his capacity as dean of PLUS Eduplexs faculty of facility management, said work training is an important part of education as it helps reinforce learning and provides experience to leaners before they enter work.  Students will learn from “expertise coach” teams that comprised specialists with more than 20 years of experience.  A number of the specialists hailed from the engineering field and were responsible for systems maintenance in buildings and the preventive maintenance of equipment and engineered systems, whereas others were specialists in architectural work who were responsible for designing and schematising the various systems within a building.  At the work sites, the students would be supervised by mentors who were senior personnel from PLUS; the mentors would oversee the work of the students, teach them the practice and provide advice in all steps associated with facility management at modern buildings with advanced technologies.  Relaying knowledge in this way fosters students’ better understanding and the hands-on practice allows them to clearly grasp matters.  In turn, planning for further development and extension of the students’ skills becomes possible.

A representative from National University of Laos shared his experience of participating in the special program, saying he considered the hands-on training to be a good experience that allowed him to grasp the picture of real work and understand it.  The program allowed him to learn additional things on top of what he had studied.  Importantly, he was exposed to the systems within high-rise buildings and did real work on them.  The representative previously has not experienced similar systems for high-rises, and the program allowed him to develop skills and knowledge, and emboldened his confidence.

PLUS’s research and development division has discovered through its surveying that the construction of many megaprojects that centered on large office complexes have been announced during 2018 and 2019.  It also discovered that the tendency is for high-rise buildings in the future to be mixed-use buildings that employ more advanced technologies.  For such buildings, Facility management requires personnel who possessed innovative and technological skills who would be able to apply said skills to optimally design and maintain the various systems in the buildings.

PLUS Eduplex’s endeavor to relay the aforementioned knowledge makes it one of the first institutes within Thailand’s real estate circle to have cooperated with educational institutions from a neighboring country.  The work training program was designed specifically to pass on  knowledge to students.  It marks another important step in the growth of PLUS Eduplex and in its aspiration to expand on its success towards the bigger society in the future.
