It is not uncommon to worry about one’s home when traveling to other provinces or abroad during long holidays. These revolutionary mobile applications and tech gizmos, recommended by PLUS, will give you the peace of mind needed to get the most out of your next getaway.

1.      Red Box Online: Leave Your Home in the Care of the 4.0-Era Police

An application from the Royal Thai Police, developed for the purpose of receiving incident reports and serving as a communications medium between police and homeowners. Instead of a red box, the police place a QR code in front of the house.  Patrol officers can then scan the QR code to report any issues to the homeowner by instant message. The application can be downloaded from both the App Store and Play Store.

2.      Police I Lert You: Quick, Rapid, Speedy

Due to frequent complaints about the unavailability of call receivers for the 191 hotline, the police are instead using this mobile application to take emergency reports from citizens. Users have already confirmed the convenience and speedy response afforded by the app. Try not to press the report button by mistake, as the police will contact you.

3. Ring Video Doorbell: Feels Like You’re Just a Door Away

When someone drops by and rings the doorbell, you are immediately able to talk to them through your smartphone, even if you are in another country. This smart doorbell is embedded with a motion-detecting sensor; when triggered, it will send a high-definition video feed to your smartphone so that you can see what is happening.

4.      Fake TV Simulator: Let Them Think You Are Home

Many prefer others not to know when their home is unoccupied, as this presents an opportunity for burglars. The Fake TV Simulator emits light that resembles that of a television screen, making it look as if someone is watching TV in the house. The lights fade and move just like a real TV. The device can also be timed and comes with a light sensor to switch the device on at night.

5.      Caséta Wireless: Automatically Turn Lights On and Off

Caséta Wireless is a set of tools for controlling the light switches within a home remotely. The switches can be triggered anytime from anywhere through the Lutron Electronics app. Another useful attribute is the ability to set lights to a timer and have them turn on automatically at night, making it look as if somebody is in the house. This gadget can also prevent accidents that may occur when walking into a dark room at night, as the user is able to switch on the lights before entering.

6.      Nest Protect: Guard Against Fires

Fires are an issue that should concern us as much as burglars or invaders. When Nest Protect detects smoke or carbon monoxide, it sounds an alarm and immediately sends a message to the homeowner. The homeowner can then call the fire department – even if not home. Although technology can make life more convenient, it is important to always be prudent and to properly prepare one’s home before going away. To lower the risk of fires and burglaries, ensure that all windows and doors have been locked and the gas has been turned off.

Those living in gated communities and condominiums can ask the Juristic Office to help monitor their home during holidays and long weekends. Building good relations with the neighbours is another way to take care of one’s property and ensure peace of mind when going away for extended periods.
